Competition or collaboration - what balance do we need in education?

For the past four days, Education Ministers from over 90 countries gathered alongside 36,000 of the world's education leaders as part of this year’s global Education & Skills summit, to envision a new future for schools around the world: https://www.tiess.online/

I had the pleasure and privilege to be invited to a panel discussion alongside Dr Teerakiat Jareonsettasin - the Chair of the National PISA Committee - OECD and Mr Raghav Gupta - Director of India & Asia Pacific at Coursera- to talk about the balance of competition and collaboration in education.

Deliberately provocative in my 10 minute talk, I offered a clear vision for the future of healthy classrooms and relationships in schools – and the need to focus on collaboration, not competition, questioning in particular why we would choose to find a balance or middle ground between illness and health.

Head of OCED Andreas Schleicher stated in his opening address: "Now is the time for us to be courageous and face up to some of the essential needs of education in a changing world, many of which we simply cannot address by following our old ways and existing patterns of teaching and learning."

I am filled with this courage and energised to help move our education systems forward to create a future of learning in which both people and planet can flourish. Check out the conversation below.

With immense gratitude to Gavin Dykes and the TIESS committee for the invitation.
