Identity Lesson Plans

Questions you will explore

  • How is our identity shaped by the world around us?

  • Why are we given labels by other people to define our identity?

  • What are some of the stereotypes and limitations that labels can create?

  • How is our identity different when we are online

  • How are we influenced by the media in presenting a ‘version of ourselves’ to the world?

  • How can we learn to balance expectations of an ideal self with those of our real self?

Aims & Objectives:

Each lesson starts with a short film which serves as the platform for the lesson’s discussions, allowing students to engage firstly with the ideas raised in the film and then develop insight and engagement in the topic. Students will practise skills of critical thinking & questioning, deep listening and empathy building. Lessons will examine our identity in the world , looking at the relationship between who we are and who we are told to be. Students will discuss and explore the different influences upon our identities, exploring in depth our online selves and the ways that we connect with people and present ourselves to the world.
