It may seem overwhelming to know how to start talking about some of the complex - and in many cases existential- crises we are facing in our rapidly changing world.  Yet research shows us time and again that we have to start talking about these big and tricky issues - in particular with children and young people.

This is a very compassionate and inspiring workshop with lots of ideas for dealing with how to broach difficult issues in the very challenging times we live in.
Deputy Headteacher | Bath, UK.

Anxiety about the climate crises is showing up in children’s behaviour, preoccupations, dreams, and uncertainty about their futures. At a time when there are seemingly ever-more things happening to make us feel overwhelmed and anxious, having a safe place to be talking about what’s happening in the world is essential. For all of us, no matter our age.

This participatory and immersive workshop will give you the tools and guidance to hold courageous conversations with others, offering practical steps and progressive strategies to learn how to talk with young people about the big issues facing people and planet - and feel empowered in the process.

  • Learn how to address eco-anxiety and help young people to connect to stories of change and feel empowered in their own lives

  • Develop facilitation techniques to explore the many different aspects of the nested crises that we face

  • Explore and practise the Brave, Safe, Connected framework for courageous conversations

  • Gain techniques to better understand and respond to the social and emotional development needs of ourselves and young people

  • Explore how to embed these conversations in the curriculum by relating across different subjects

  • Understand practices to help deepen and strengthen resilience and wellbeing and feel empowered in your own responses to the challenges we are facing

The training includes a downloadable Toolkit plus learning resources to help bring courageous conversations into the classroom, home or learning environment.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING:

I would highly recommend the CPD training, in particular for the sake of our children’s mental health and general education. It is so good - and so necessary - to be able to have these sorts of conversations and we don’t have them nearly enough.
— Ed Brewster | Secondary Teacher
I think there are many teachers, educators and parents out there wanting to tackle this subject but not knowing where to start. This training offers the confidence and resources for people to be able to get going with these essential conversations straight away. It was excellent!
— Thea Platt | Transition Network
I would absolutely recommend this CPD. Teachers need to know that it’s not only OK but important for them to make time for these conversations. This training provides reassurance that they don’t need to have all of the answers but do need tools for engaging in these challenging conversations so they can feel confident/brave enough to have them.
